Dendrobium chrysotoxum Lindl. is a herbaceous plant. The stem is upright, fleshy, spindle shaped, 6-30 cm long, 1.5-5 cm thick in the middle, with 2-5 internodes, mostly rounded and blunt edges, golden yellow after drying, and 2-5 leaves near the top. Leaves leathery, oblong, up to 19 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide or wider, apex acute and hooked, base constricted, but not extending downward into a sheath that embraces the stem.
The raceme inflorescence is emitted near the top of the stem, slanting or slightly drooping, and can grow up to 20 centimeters in length; The inflorescence axis is thick and robust, with sparse majority of flowers; The base of the inflorescence stem has 4-5 sheaths; The flower buds are small, membranous, ovate lanceolate, 2-3 millimeters long, with a sharp apex; The flower stem and ovary are yellow, measuring up to 5 centimeters in length; The flower has a thick texture, golden yellow color, and a slight aroma; The middle calyx is round in shape, measuring 1.2-2 centimeters in length and 5-9 millimeters in width in the middle. The tip is slightly blunt and has 7 veins; The lateral sepals are nearly equal in size to the middle sepals; The calyx sac is nearly spherical, about 4 millimeters wide.
Petals are oblong in shape, equal in length to the sepals, about twice the width of sepals, with a nearly circular apex and about 10 veins; The color of the lip is darker than that of sepals and petals, with a nearly kidney shaped circular shape, about 2 cm long and 2.3 cm wide, with a shallow 2-lobed tip, some red stripes on both sides of the base, wavy edges, and dense short hairs on top; The labial disc is usually raised in a “∧” shape, sometimes with “U” – shaped chestnut patches; The stamen is about 5 millimeters long; The medicine cap is light yellow and has a pointed shape. The flowering period is from March to May.
Dendrobium chrysotoxum Lindl often grows on tree trunks or rocks under sparse forests in evergreen broad-leaved forests with abundant sunlight at an altitude of 520-1620 meters; I prefer to grow in warm, humid, semi cloudy and semi sunny environments with an annual rainfall of over 1000 millimeters, and do not have very strict requirements for soil.
